Lucky Seven is an incredibly popular local hotspot. Busy throughout the day, but absolutely heaving with customers between 6 and 8am when people come from all over town to have their breakfast. The place is clean, food is great and the atmosphere can’t be beaten. Sitting on the small wooden chairs listening to chirping birds; it is fun to simply observe the incredibly well-oiled machine that is Lucky Seven.

This is a great place to try Myanmar’s most famous national dish mohinga, a fresh fish broth with ginger and lemongrass poured over thin rice vermicelli served with spring onion, crushed chilli and fresh herbs. Typically eaten for breakfast but actually a popular dish any time of the day. Other favourites include rice noodle salad with chicken and moist and flaky egg parata, served with sugar. Lucky Seven is also amazingly affordable. A full breakfast will set you back anything between 2,000-3,000 Kyat.

Seven is a lucky number in Myanmar. What started as a small tea house in Ahlone at the outskirts of town is now a successful local chain. The original Lucky Seven is worth a visit though, it has a seating capacity of over 100 guests. Go try, it is an experience in itself.

The red brick colonial building next to Lucky 7 is the local Thambara Reddiar High School. While enjoying your breakfast you may hear the students singing; every day starts with the national anthem followed by the school vision.
