Renewed open space
This was a barren carpark littered with dove droppings and trash, a place people ignored on their way to the nearby market and temple. But since Think City transformed the 810 sqm. of tarmac and 210 sqm. of concrete into an attractive park with event space and an interactive play pump water feature for children, life has come back to the area. Now a popular hangout area for local families with new shops and eateries opening their doors in the nearby shophouses.
First rain garden in Penang
The garden allows rainwater run-off to be absorbed into a local pond. The variety and ample amount of greenery and water have created a unique biodiversity and frogs and dragonflies quickly set up home here.
Butterworth Fringe Festival
This garden is the venue for the annual Butterworth Fringe Festival, a free two-day street event celebrating local arts, culture, and heritage. Since 2015, the festival has put the spotlight on the community and spaces of Butterworth with street food, performances, art exhibitions, fun children activities and creative workshops.
