It’s difficult not to fall in love with Po Tuck Street’s low-key charm. Local teahouse Teakha was one of the first in a new wave of small businesses that have opened around Po Tuck Street in recent years and many independent retail and F&B concepts followed in their steps.
The neighborhood
The street, a stone’s throw away from HKU station retains its sense of character and community feel, but the café’s and shops have brought a new élan to the old neighborhood. This newfound creative community holds regular street festivals and markets, including film screenings and other events under the dramatic flyover that snakes down Hill Road.
Hillside village
The hillside part of Shek Tong Tsui has filled up with quirky new businesses in recent years.We love Ethos, which embodies the new spirit of Shek Tong Tsui, with a design shop, event space and café, all decorated with the same refreshing minimalism. We are also fond of Ga Gi Nang, which means “our people” in then Chiu Chow dialect. It reflects the way this bar has become a local hangout, with good cocktails and interesting fusion food.
