Huge monastic complex
Imagine Kalaw a century ago. In those days, this monastic compound was huge. It stretched all the way from the mosaic pagoda in the centre of town to the clock tower and even included the mosque. When the British planners came to town, they separated the different religions and gave them each their own piece of land.
What to see?
There are 28 ancient stupas, freshly renovated and painted. One of the stupas Shwe Lin Loon is so famous, it has its own dedicated festival, held on the day before the full moon day of Tasaung Mone (around November). Or come here in April for the new year celebrations when thousands come to the temple to pay their respects.
