This small hole-in-the-wall restaurant is nothing fancy in terms of decor or seating, but it serves up some of the most delicious Shan noodles in town. This is what the Shan eat for breakfast, but we’re actually happy to have it all day. The noodle dish is a staple of northern Shan State, but so popular that even in Yangon you can typically find a Shan noodles joint in every local neighbourhood. Traditional Shan noodles have a wonderful sticky texture, but the secret is in the sauce of tomatoes, herbs, peanuts and sesame topped with ground chilli, fresh coriander and poppy seeds. This is the place to try!
Tofu soup
Pyae Pyae is a firm local favourite and it can get busy! You can’t go wrong with the traditional Shan dishes, just sit down and point at the menu. We like the Tofu Nway. It’s a unique warm silky soup of grounded chickpeas topped with smashed nuts, sesame seeds, parsley, cabbage, and a huge dose of ground, crunchy chilli paste.
